Location
The radar sensors control unit is located at the bottom right side of the luggage compartment.
Task
The tasks of the radar sensors control unit include controlling the following functions:
- Variable Speed Limiter (except code (494) USA version)
- Permanent Speed Limiter
- Automatic deactivation of the radar sensor system (for the Western European version)
- DISTRONIC PLUS
- Distance warning system
- BAS PLUS (Brake Assist System PLUS)
- PRE-SAFE brake
- Park Assist (except model 221 as of AEJ 09 model refinement package)
- Parking Guidance (except model 221 as of AEJ 09 model refinement package)
- Blind Spot Assist (for code (234) Blind Spot Assist)
The additional tasks of the radar sensors control unit are:
- Actuation and evaluation of front short range sensor
- Evaluation of the long range radar
The radar sensors control unit is the unit that evaluates the short range radar sensors and the long range radar.
To do this the from and rear short range sensor up YoM 09 model refinement package are interconnected respectively via a sensor-CAN (CAN S) and from YoM 09 model refinement package via a joint sensor CAN with the radar sensors control unit. The long range sensor is networked via the vehicle dynamics CAN (CAN H) with the radar sensors control unit.
The radar sensors control unit also receives information (such as own vehicle speed and driver acceleration requests) from other control over the chassis CAN (CAN E) and dynamics CAN.
After evaluating all sensor data and input signals, the radar sensors control unit takes full control of the vehicle longitudinal movements, by sending accelerate, decelerate, brake or gearshift signals via the chassis CAN.
The radar sensors control unit also actuates warning tones and indicators on the instrument cluster (A1).
