MODIFICATION NOTES

2.9.09 Switch off ignition, remove partition wall section on the left Steps 1, 2.2
REMOVINGINSTALLING Remove/install
DANGER Risk of injury  to skin and eyes caused by scalding from contact with hot coolant spray. Risk of poisoning  caused by swallowing coolant. Do not open cooling system unless coolant temperature is below 90°C. Open cap slowly and release the pressure. Do not pour coolant into beverage containers.
Wear protective gloves, protective clothing and safety glasses.

NOTES Information on preventing damage to electronic components due to electrostatic discharge   AH54.00-P-0001-01A
1 Switch off ignition and remove the transmitter key from the EIS [EZS] control unit IMPORTANT On vehicles with code (889) Keyless Go: Press keyless go start/stop button repeatedly until ignition is switched off. Remove transmitter key from vehicle and store it in a location beyond its transmission range (at least 2 m).
2.1 Remove air filter housing (3). Engine 272 (except 272.973), 273 in model 164 AR09.10-P-1150GZA
Engine 273 in model 463 AR09.10-P-1150GZG
2.2 Remove partition wall section left  Engine 272.973 in model 164.195
3 Reduce pressure in engine cooling system. IMPORTANT To do slowly open cap (1) on coolant expansion reservoir (2) and close again.
IMPORTANT The coolant temperature should be approx. 40°C.

4 Disconnect electrical connector on crankshaft
Hall sensor (B70)

5 Unlatch electrical connector at the coolant temperature sensor (B11/4) and disconnect
6 Remove bolt (4) and remove clamping plate (5) TORQUE SPECIFICATION *BA15.60-P-1001-01A
7 Fit new O-ring (6) to new coolant temperature sensor (B11/4)
8 Pull old coolant temperature sensor (B11/4) out of cylinder head and immediately insert new coolant temperature sensor (B11/4)
9 Install in the reverse order
10 Pour in coolant and bleed cooling system Engine 272, 273 in model 164 AR20.00-P-1142GZC
Engine 273 in model 463 AR20.00-P-1142GX
11 Connect STAR DIAGNOSIS and read fault memory IMPORTANT Faults which may arise by disconnecting wires or by a simulation must be erased in the fault memory after completing the work. AD00.00-P-2000-04A
