The electrically adjustable steering column (ELV) can be adjusted manually by the steering column adjustment switch or the steering column adjustment/steering wheel heater switch (S59/1) (with code (443) Steering wheel heater) as well as automatically by operating one of the memory switches 1, 2, 3 (S91s14) in the switch group driver-seat adjustment with memory.

The following can be adjusted via steering column adjustment switch:

• Steering column in/out
• Steering column up/down

The steering column positions can be stored as well as called up using the memory function.

They are stored in the driver-side front seat adjustment control unit with memory.

After storage of the steering column position on vehicles as of 1.6.07 an acoustic feedback occurs through the warning buzzer integrated in the instrument cluster (A1h1).

For automatic adjustment of the electrically adjustable steering column, the function under the menu item "Easy entry/exit" in the instrument cluster must be activated.

The steering column motors are actuated by the front seat adjustment control unit.

The steering column position measurement is realized by one Hall sensor each in the steering column motors.

Combined with time evaluation by the driver front seat adjustment control unit with memory, the Hall sensors are also used to detected any blockage.
