The emergency call system control unit (N123/4) receives a discreet digital crash signal from the restraint system control unit (N2/7) and, in addition, redundant crash information, over the Control Area Network bus, class C (engine compartment) (CAN C), the central gateway control unit (N93) and the Control Area Network bus, class D (diagnosis) (CAN D). The crash information reports on the type of accident (head-on, rear end, side or rollover accident).

The restraint systems control unit sends a LIFE signal every 500 ms. This indicates to the emergency call system control unit that the crash recognition feature is operating properly.
