Manual interior lights control, function - GF82.20-P-2000GM

MODEL 164.1 as of model year 2009 /YoM 08 model refinement package

MODEL 164.8, 251.0 /1 as of model year 2009 /YoM 08

Manual interior lights control in general

The manual interior lights control allows the interior illumination, reading illumination, vanity mirror illumination and the glove compartment illumination to be switched on and off. Pressing the switches - some of which are mounted to the housing of the overhead control panel control unit (N70) - applies voltage to the corresponding components.

The manual interior lights control feature consists of the following subfunctions:

- Function sequence for interior illumination

- Function sequence for reading illumination

- Function sequence for vanity mirror illumination

- Function sequence for stowage compartment lighting (with code (876) Interior lights package)

- Function sequence for glove compartment illumination

Function sequence for interior illumination

Actuation of the interior illumination components is done in each case in dimmed state by the overhead control panel control unit. The following components in the interior illumination can be manually switched on and off by pressing the corresponding switches:

- Left interior light 1st seat row (N70e4) and right interior light, 1st seat row (N70e5) via the interior lights switch, 1st seat row (N70s4)

- Load compartment center dome lamp (E15/4) with model 164.1 or model 164.8, 251 without (876) Interior lights package) via the rear dome lamps switch (N70s2)

- Dome lamp, 3rd seat row (E15/3e3) (with model 164.8, 251 with code (847) 3rd seat row and code (876) Interior lights package) via the rear dome lamps switch

The right front footwell lamp (E17/15) and the left front footwell lamp (E17/16) are also switched on for interior illumination.

In vehicles with code (876) Interior lights package, the right rear footwell lamp (E17/17) and the left rear footwell lamp (E17/18) are also switched on. The footwell lamps are actuated by the front SAM control unit (N10). The relevant switch-on request is transmitted by the overhead control panel control unit via the interior CAN (CAN B) to the front SAM control unit.

The interior illumination is switched off with circuit status circuit 15 off after t = 30 min. All automatic functions are aborted by manually switching on the interior illumination. The circuit status of circuit 15 is provided on the interior CAN by the EZS control unit (N73).

Function sequence for reading lamps

The reading lights are used to illuminate a defined area, without generating any dazzling effect for the driver.

The following reading illumination components can be switched on and off manually by operating the relevant switch:

- Left reading lamp (A67e1) in inside rearview mirror unit (A67) via left reading lamp switch, 1st seat row (N70s6)

- Right reading lamp (A67e2) in inside rearview mirror unit via right reading lamp switch, 1st seat row (N70s7)

- Left reading lamp, 2nd seat row (E15/12e1) via the switch integrated in the left dome lamp, 2nd seat row (E15/12)

- Right reading lamp, 2nd seat row (E15/13e1) via the switch integrated in the right dome lamp, 2nd seat row (E15/13)

- Left reading lamp, 3rd seat row (E15/3e1) and right reading lamp, 3rd seat row (E15/3e2) (with code (876) Interior lights package) via the switch integrated in the dome lamp, 3rd seat row (E15/3)

The reading illumination is switched off t = 30 min. after circuit status circuit 15 OFF or immediately after the vehicle has been locked.

Circuit status circuit 15 is transmitted by the EZS control unit via the interior CAN to the overhead control panel control unit.

Function sequence for vanity mirror illumination

The following components for the vanity mirror illumination can be switched on and off manually by folding the corresponding mirror cover open and closing it:

- Left sun visor with illuminated mirror (E14/1) via the left front vanity mirror illumination switch (S101)

- Right sun visor with illuminated mirror (E14/2) via the right front vanity mirror illumination switch (S102)

The power supply of the vanity mirror illumination switch is performed via the overhead control panel control unit. The power supply is interrupted by folding back the mirror cover or when t = 30 min. have expired following circuit 15 OFF in order to protect the battery (G1).

Additional function requirements for stowage compartment lighting (with code (876) Interior lights package)

- Circuit 15R On

- Circuit 58d On

Function sequence for stowage compartment lighting (with code (876) Interior lights package)

The stowage compartment lighting components are supplied with power by the front SAM control unit and cannot be switched on and off manually. The EZS control unit transmits circuit status circuit 15 via the interior CAN to the front SAM control unit. The status of circuit 58d is provided by the instrument cluster (A1) on the interior CAN. The stowage compartments in the center consoles are illuminated by the following components.

On model 164:

- Front center console illumination (E36/2)

Additional function requirements for glove compartment illumination

- Circuit 15R On

Function sequence for glove compartment illumination

The glove box illumination with switch (E13/2) is supplied with power by the circuit 15 connector sleeve (Z50/5) by the rear SAM control unit (N10/8) and switched on by opening the glove compartment lid. The EZS control unit transmits circuit status circuit 15 via the interior CAN to the rear SAM control unit. The power supply for the glove box illumination is automatically interrupted by closing the glove compartment lid or after expiry of t = 15 min after bus idle to save the battery (if the glove compartment lid is open).
