The StarGuide system exploits the availability of existing telecommunication technology in the USA. This is used to provide a personal information service.
Technical requirements:
- E-call
- Navigation system
- The latest navigation CD (this contains current software on the implementation of the services offered in each case. This updates the navigation system)
- Conditions required to implement the respective systems are met.
Organizational requirements:
- GPS: Global Positioning System. Satellite-supported system for precise positioning and navigation. Currently several satellites are being worked with; these move around the earth on different paths.
- AMPS: Advanced Mobile Phone System. The AMPS network is now available in the densely populated areas of the USA for 98% of the population.
- SOC: Service Operating Center. The SOC receives all the driver's individual requirements and conveys the corresponding information to the vehicle.
Concept of the personal information service:
- Individual information and news passed on depending on personal profile of interests (stock exchange, weather, sport)
- Transmitting a request to the Service Operating Center
- The Service Operating Center sends individual information and news in accordance with the customer profile.
- The data conveyed are shown in the display of the COMAND operating, display and control unit (A40/3) and can then be read.
