Location

The COMMAND controller unit is installed into the center console.

Task

The COMMAND controller unit centrally actuates the following systems:

Audio systems (radio mode, CD mode and DVD mode)
Navigation system
Telematics system (telephone mode, e-mail)
Video systems (TV, DVD)

Design

Integrated into the COMMAND controller unit are the following:

Digital versatile disk (DVD) drive
Central computer
Interfaces to the Media Oriented System Transport (MOST), telematics CAN, and central CAN
DVD changer
Navigation processor

Function

The control buttons and switches of the function keypad at the front central operating unit (A40/9) are read in by the microcontroller (via I and O ports) and transferred to the central computer in the COMMAND controller unit. Depending on the system function, the button operations are processed further in the central computer and forwarded via the MOST, the telematics CAN and the central CAN to the other system components in the form of a data telegram.
