SUBJECT
Issue with spoiler/splitter clearance on alignment rack
SITUATION
- The SL 65 Black Series, SLR 722 / 722S Edition are fitted with a lower carbon fiber front chin spoiler/splitter and a lowered vehicle ride height that will not allow the vehicle to drive up onto an existing alignment rack without causing damage to the spoiler/splitter.
- The spoiler/splitter will contact the ramp on approach and again contact the platform end stops once the vehicle is on the alignment turnplates.
- This issue occurs on all alignment racks even if extended SLR ramps have been fitted previously.
- This spoiler/splitter and lower vehicle ride height will not affect the use of an SLR approved 2-post lift.
ACTION
- DO NOT DRIVE AN SL 65 Black Series, SLR 722 / 722S EDITION ONTO AN EXISTING ALIGNMENT RACK AS DAMAGE WILL OCCUR.
- Hunter Engineering has designed a new set of approach ramps and modified end stops to accommodate this vehicle.
- Ramps are currently available.
- Contact for availability: Mike Roth 201-573-5351.
- The PDI and Delivery process does not require the use of the alignment rack therefore the exposure of this issue is limited for the near future.
- As an interim work-around if needed, the spoiler/splitter can be removed and the vehicle will then have sufficient clearance on the approach to the ramp and at the end stops.
- NOTE: This pertains to the existing SLR compliant approach ramps.
- NOTE: Please use caution as the slope of the floor in your facility can invalidate this work-around as it pertains to the break-over angle as vehicle ride height is 10mm lower (break-over angle measured at rocker panel when the vehicle is half on the lift and half on the ramp/floor)
