Automatic air conditioning box, function - GF83.40-P-2105-02P

WARNING: This page does not describe the selected car, but rather 25 other vehicles, including the 2007 Mercedes-Benz C350, 2007 Mercedes-Benz C280, 2007 Mercedes-Benz C230, 2006 Mercedes-Benz C55, and 2006 Mercedes-Benz C350. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.

Heating mode

Heater operation, function

In heating mode, intake air (A) is drawn in by the blower motor (A32m1), corresponding to the position of the fresh air and air recirculation flap. The intake air (A) cleaned by the dust filter (1) is routed past the evaporator (3), dried there and cooled off. Subsequently and corresponding to the position of the blend air flaps, the dried and cooled air (B) is routed past the heater heat exchanger (4), through which coolant flows, and is heated up there. Corresponding to the positions of the footwell flaps, the defroster flaps and the fresh air flaps, the heated air (C) is conducted to the respective air outlets.

In addition, cooled air (B) is diverted directly downstream of the evaporator (3) for indirect fresh air supply, this flow being controlled by means of the cold air blending adjustment wheel at the center air outlet. The defroster flaps are easily opened. When going from heating mode to cooling mode (mode change), the left and right footwell flaps actuator motor (M2/15) starts to close the footwell flaps.

The condensation water is led to the outside via the condensation drain.

Cooling mode

Cooling mode function

In cooling mode, intake air (A) is drawn in by the blower motor (A32m1), corresponding to the position of the fresh air and air recirculation flap. The intake air (A) cleaned by the dust filter (1) is routed past the evaporator (3), dried there and cooled off. The dried and cooled air (B) is subsequently diverted past the heater heat exchanger (4), corresponding to the position of the blend air flaps, and flows directly to the particular air outlets depending on the position of the footwell flaps, the defroster flaps and the fresh air flaps.

In addition, cooled air (B) is diverted directly downstream of the evaporator (3) for indirect fresh air supply, this flow being controlled by means of the cold air blending adjustment wheel at the center air outlet. In cooling mode the footwell flaps are closed by the left and right footwell fresh air actuators (M2/15). The defroster flaps can be open with dry outside air. The other flaps can be operated manually. When going from cooling mode to heating mode (mode change), the left and right footwell flaps actuator motor (M2/15) starts to open the footwell flaps. The condensation water is led to the outside via the condensation drain.

Normal mode

Fig 3: Identifying Automatic Air Conditioning Box - Normal Mode
G04737956

Normal mode function

In normal mode, intake air (A) is drawn in by the blower motor (A32m1), corresponding to the position of the fresh air and air recirculation flap. The intake air (A) cleaned by the dust filter (1) is routed past the evaporator (3), dried there and cooled off. Subsequently and corresponding to the position of the blend air flaps, a portion of the dried and cooled air (B) is routed past the heater heat exchanger (4), through which coolant flows, and is heated up there. The remaining dried and cooled air (B) is diverted past the heater heat exchanger (4) and is blended with the heated air (C) to form mixed air (D).

In the corresponding position of the footwell flaps, the defroster flaps and the fresh air flaps, the mixed air (D) is conducted to the respective air outlets. In addition, cooled air (B) is diverted directly downstream of the evaporator (3) for indirect fresh air supply, this flow being controlled by means of the cold air blending adjustment wheel at the center air outlet.

The defroster flaps can be open with dry outside air. The other flaps can be operated manually.

The condensation water is led to the outside via the condensation drain.

Blended air mode with recirculated air

Mixed air mode with recirculated air function

In mixed air mode with recirculated air, intake air (A) is drawn in by the blower motor (A32m1), corresponding to the position of the fresh air and air recirculation flap. This is routed past the evaporator (3) and is dried and cooled there. Subsequently and corresponding to the position of the blend air flaps, a portion of the dried and cooled air (B) is routed past the heater heat exchanger (4) and is heated up there. The remaining dried and cooled air (B) is diverted past the heater heat exchanger (4), through which coolant flows, and is blended with the heated air (C) to form mixed air (D).
