Remove/install rear head restraint mechanical system - AR91.16-P-1780SX

REMOVINGINSTALLING Remove/install     
1.1 Remove rear seat backrest For vehicles without code (223) Rear seat bench with electrically adjustable outer seats with PRE-SAFE positioning feature for outer seats and outer head restraint or without code (224) Individual rear seat system design) AR91.12-P-1620SY 
1.2 Remove left or right rear seat backrest In vehicles with code (223) Rear seat bench with electrically adjustable outer seats with PRE-SAFE positioning feature for outer seats and outer head restraint or code (224) Individual rear seat system design without code (Z07) Top protection AR91.12-P-1620SX 
In vehicles with code (Z07) Top protection AR91.12-P-1620SXS 
2 Remove middle and each outer head restraint in rear compartment IMPORTANT When removing center folding device (3) all rear head restraints must also be removed.

3 Remove left or right trim from C-pillar IMPORTANT Place trim at bottom of C-pillar with attached seat belt to one side.

4.1 Remove frame with stowage compartment (4) or ski bag mounting When removing center folding device (3).
IMPORTANT Ski bag mounting for vehicles with code (282) Ski bag (through-loading feature).
 
5 Release trim on rear shelf (5) and then raise until the screws (6) are accessible    
6.1 Detach pneumatic line (8) to center folding device (3) When removing center folding device (3).  
7.1 Detach pneumatic line (8) to left folding device (1) or right folding device (2) When removing left folding device (1) or right folding device (2) on vehicles without code (223) Rear seat bench with electrically adjustable outer seats with PRE-SAFE positioning feature for outer seats and outer head restraint or without code (224) Rear individual seat system design.  
7.2 Detach electrical connector on left rear head restraint inclination adjustment motor (M18/15) or on right rear head restraint inclination adjustment motor (M18/16) When removing left rear head restraint inclination adjustment motor (M18/15) or the right rear head restraint inclination adjustment motor (M18/16) on vehicles with code (223) Rear seat bench with electrically adjustable outer seats with PRE-SAFE positioning feature for outer seats and outer head restraint or with code (224) Rear individual seat system design.  
8 Unscrew appropriate bolts (6)    
9 Undo corresponding bolts (7) by several threads    
10 Remove left or right side paneling in trunk IMPORTANT When removing center folding device (3) or when the left folding device (1) and right folding device (2) or the left rear head restraint inclination adjustment motor (M18/15) and the right rear head restraint inclination adjustment motor (M18/16) are removed together, both trims at the side in the luggage compartment must also be removed.

11 Detach upper trim and fold down IMPORTANT When removing center folding device (3) or when the left folding device (1) and right folding device (2) or the left rear head restraint inclination adjustment motor (M18/15) and the right rear head restraint inclination adjustment motor (M18/16) are removed together, the upper trim in the luggage compartment must be completely removed.  
12 Remove expansion clip on corresponding soundproofing (9) and remove soundproofing (9)    
13 Remove folding device (1, 2, 3) or left rear head restraint inclination adjustment motor (M18/15), right rear head restraint inclination adjustment motor (M18/16) downwards NOTES When removing right folding device (2) or right rear head restraint inclination adjustment motor (M18/16) make sure that the electrical connections on the rear SAM control unit with fuse and relay module are not short circuited to the vehicle ground, as otherwise the vehicle's electrical system will be damaged.  
14 Install in the reverse order    
15.1 Normalize the left rear head restraint inclination adjustment motor (M18/15), right rear head restraint inclination adjustment motor (M18/16) using STAR DIAGNOSIS For vehicles with code (223) Rear seat bench with electrically adjustable outer seats with PRE-SAFE positioning feature for outer seats and outer head restraint or code (224) Individual rear seat system design)  
REFER TO SELF-DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEMS Connect STAR DIAGNOSIS and read out fault memory AD00.00-P-2000-04A
