Location 

The WSS control unit is located at the seat frame of the front passenger seat.

Task 

• Power supply and evaluation of WSS sensors (B48/11, B48/12, B48/13, B48/14)
• Power supply and evaluation of the belt tension sensor (B48/3)
• Calculation of classification of weight on front passenger seat
• Provision of weight classification via the interior CAN
• Self-test of the WSS control unit, the WSS sensors and the belt tension sensor.
• Storage of detected faults

The WSS control unit evaluates the data from the WSS sensors and the belt tension sensor. The measurements are used to assign a weight classification to the weight on the seat, which is then sent to the restraint systems control unit (N2/7) via the interior CAN and the chassis CAN for precise control of the front passenger airbag unit.
