Passenger-side seat occupied recognition function - GF91.60-P-1100LEU

MODEL 221.0 /1 up to 31.8.08 with CODE (494) USA version as of Model Year 2009 /Modification Year 08

General function requirements

Passenger-side seat occupied recognition, general

The passenger-side seat occupied recognition detects whether the front passenger seat is occupied.

The passenger-side seat occupied recognition consists of the following subfunctions:

Function sequence for front passenger seat occupied recognition

The front passenger seat occupied recognition and automatic child seat recognition are determined by means of the weight that is on the front passenger seat. The left front WSS (weight sensing system) sensor (B48/11), the right front WSS (weight sensing system) sensor (B48/12), the left rear WSS (weight sensing system) sensor (B48/13) and the right rear WSS (weight sensing system) sensor (B48/14) determine the weight (person or child seat) on the front passenger seat. The force that is introduced via the seat belt is measured by the belt tension sensor (B48/3) so that weight classification corrections can be made if necessary.

These two measurements are used by the Weight Sensing System (WSS) control unit (N2/13) to calculate a weight classification for the weight on the seat, which is then transmitted to the central gateway control unit (N93) via the interior CAN (CAN B) and then relayed to the restraint systems control unit (N2/7) via the chassis CAN (CAN E).

The following conditions are defined depending on the weight classification:

Front passenger airbag unit is enabled (ignition of first or both stages).

Function sequence for outputting status and fault messages

The output of status and fault messages consists of the following subfunctions:

Function sequence for actuating the automatic child seat recognition airbag OFF indicator lamp

If the front passenger seat is found to be occupied, the automatic child seat recognition airbag OFF indicator lamp in the cockpit switch group (S6/2) is switched off.

The request for switching on and off the automatic child seat recognition airbag OFF indicator lamp is transmitted by the central gateway control unit via the interior CAN to the upper control panel control unit (N72/1). This relays the request to the cockpit switch group via the upper control panel LIN (LIN B3).

As long as the front passenger seat is found to be unoccupied, the automatic child seat recognition airbag OFF indicator lamp remains switched on.

If a light weight is detected and the belt is also fastened, the automatic child seat recognition airbag OFF indicator lamp is also switched on.

Function sequence for outputting fault messages

The status of the supplemental restraint system is sent by the restraint systems control unit via the interior CAN to the instrument cluster (A1), which then displays a corresponding message in the multifunction display (A1p13), if required.
