Task

The COMAND controller unit fulfills the following tasks:

Computer for entertainment and communication systems

The COMAND controller unit provides the user with a structured and standard interface on the COMAND display (A40/8) (without code (867) SPLITVIEW) or the SPLITVIEW display (A40/10) (with code (867) SPLITVIEW).

The COMAND controller unit generates standard and user-friendly displays for all the individual components integrated into the system.

Reading in of signals

The input factors are read in via the following connections:

Direct line

The following signals are read in via direct lines:

Controller Area Network (data bus/CAN bus) (CAN)

The signals are read in over the telematics CAN (CAN A) and central CAN (CAN F). The functions resulting therefrom are described in the corresponding function descriptions (see block diagram or function schematic).

Media Oriented System Transport (MOST)

The COMAND controller unit communicates with the following control units via MOST depending on the equipment specification:

Evaluation of input factors

The input factors are processed and evaluated by the COMAND controller unit.

Actuates output media

The output media are actuated through the following connection:

Direct line

The following output media are actuated over direct lines:

IMPORTANT Low voltage differential signaling lines are used to transmit picture and video signals.

The following system components are actuated internally:

CAN

The signals are sent over the telematics CAN to the central CAN. The functions resulting therefrom are described in the corresponding function descriptions (see block diagram or function schematic).

MOST

The COMAND controller unit communicates with the following control units via MOST depending on the equipment specification:

Design

Integrated into the COMAND controller unit are the following:

Diagnosis

The COMAND controller unit acts as a diagnostic interface for all control units on the MOST and telematics CAN. The faults that have occurred can be read out using the diagnostic CAN (CAN D) and the data link connector (X11/4).
