DISTRONIC, operation 

The systems described below belong to the driving assistance systems and are offered as special equipment (SA) under the designation "DISTRONIC" with Code 219.

The DISTRONIC special equipment includes the following functionality:

• DISTRONIC (DTR)
• Distance warning system (AWS)
• Variable Speed Limiter
• Permanent Speed Limiter

DISTRONIC 

Using a radar sensor, DISTRONIC maintains the vehicle at a target distance from the vehicle ahead, set by the driver, and alerts the driver via visual and audible signals before dangerous situations arise.

The electronics activates the brakes automatically when the target distance falls short and reaccelerates back up to the target speed as soon as the traffic situation permits.

Distance warning system 

The distance warning system is an additional function of DISTRONIC.

Independently of the DISTRONIC distance control, the driver can activate or deactivate the distance warning system in the instrument cluster (A1) via a menu in the instrument cluster.
