Front emergency tensioning retractor, function - GF91.40-P-4000-03PP
- The driver ETR squib (R12/1) and the front passenger ETR squib (R12/2) (a) are ignited by the restraint systems control unit (N2/7).
- The combustion gas that is generated by the ignition creates gas pressure and therefore causes the piston to rotate (b). This tightens the seat belt.
- The gas pressure then transports the 1st ignition pylon (c) towards the 1st ignition cartridge (d).
- The 1st ignition cartridge (d) is mechanically ignited by the 1st ignition cap (c).
- The gas pressure moves the piston (b) further and causes the belt to be tensioned further.
- The gas pressure transports the 2nd ignition cap (e) in the direction of the 2nd ignition cartridge (f).
- The 2nd ignition cartridge (d) is mechanically ignited by the 2nd ignition cap (e).
- The gas pressure moves the piston (b) into the end state. The red pin is visible.
Recognition of deployment
Recognition of deployment
If all three ignition stages have been ignited, this is indicated by a red pin (arrow) sticking out from the housing of the emergency tensioning retractor unit (1).
If not all of the three ignition stages have been triggered in an accident, the unit must be disposed of accordingly. In Germany disposal is possible through the Mercedes-Benz Recycling System "MeRSy". In all other countries, observe the relevant legal regulations. Emergency tensioning retractor units in which the red pin projects, can be disposed of in the normal way.
