Function 

The voice control system (VCS) allows the vehicle telephone or the audio system to be operated by voice commands.

Data transfer is accomplished in an analog/digital way (CAN/D2B or MOST). The VCS is activated or deactivated by actuating the VCS switch (S93/2). VCS activation is confirmed to the user by an acoustic signal (beep), and VCS deactivation is confirmed by voice output over the system speakers.

When the VCS is activated, the vehicle radio (A2) or COMAND operating, display and control unit (A40/3) is automatically muted.

In addition to the automatic muting function for the radio (A2) or the COMAND operating, display and control unit (A40/3), an integral noise filtering system also helps to minimize incorrect recognition of user voice commands by the VCS. This system allows driving noises to be recognized and suppressed by the system.

After the VCS is activated, voice recognition is activated. The hands-free system microphone (B25) allows the audio system and telephone system to be operated by means of specifically defined voice commands. In doing so, the voice input should be made from the driver side because the hands-free system microphone (B25) is aligned toward the driver area.

Voice output from the VCS occurs through the vehicle speaker system. After the VCS is activated, the volume for the VCS can be adjusted using the volume control at the radio (A2) or the COMAND operating, display and control unit (A40/3) and the + and a button for setting specific functions and volume (S111s1) at the multifunction steering wheel. Adjustment of the tone and volume with the VCS is not possible.

In addition to the manual volume setting, there is a three-stage, noise-dependent volume control for voice output by the VCS. It depends on the magnitude of the ambient noise level in the vehicle and cannot be influenced by the user.

The VCS also contains a priority control, i.e. if collisions occur in the control of individual components in the communication for audio system, functions started by the VCS are discontinued or skipped.

The navigation system attempts voice output while the VCS is involved in a dialog with the user. Since the voice output from the navigation system has the highest priority of all systems, the dialog with the VCS is interrupted by the system, the (navigation) voice output is accomplished and the system then returns to (VCS) dialog with the user.
