Tire Pressure Sensor: Removal
- While ensuring that valve stays in 6 o'clock position, remove tire and wheel assembly from vehicle. Remove balancing weight(s) from wheel. Drain TIREFIT sealant out of tire.
- Position pressing-off blade of tire mounting device on tire bead (not on tire sidewall) opposite the valve. Pry inside and outside of tire over safety bead seats of disk wheel.
- Clamp disk wheel on tire mounting device. Coat rim flange and tire bead with soapy water.
- Align assembly head at a small distance (X, Y) to disk wheel. See Fig 1. Position disk wheel so that valve is about 10 cm in front of mounting head looking in the direction of rotation of tire mounting device. See Fig 2.
- Lever tire bead with an assembly lever over assembly lug, and pull off tire.
- While counterholding valve body using a 2-mm pin inserted in bore in valve body, unscrew union nut and remove spacer ring. See Fig 3 and Fig 4
- Unscrew mounting screw, and remove valve body and tire pressure sensor.
CAUTION:
DO NOT insert pressing-off blade on both rim sides in area of valve, or tire pressure sensor may be damaged.
CAUTION:
DO NOT apply compressive force during tire removal, or tire pressure sensor may be damaged.
NOTE:
DO NOT remove tire pressure sensor unless necessary. If the mounting screw or union nut of tire pressure sensor is visibly loose, replace all valve components of wheel electronics. If sensor is visibly damaged (especially white filter surface) or contaminated, tire sealant was used or sensor is more than 5 years old, install a new tire pressure sensor.
CAUTION:
DO NOT retighten internal Torx drive bolt and union nut, or tire pressure sensor will be damaged.
NOTE:
DO NOT remove white filter surface on underside of tire pressure sensor. DO NOT use compressed air, solvents or detergents to clean tire pressure sensor. Wipe off dirt with a clean, lint-free cloth only.
