MODEL 203
Automatic headlamp actuation, function
Function sequence driving through a tunnel
Basic conditions:
- The vehicle speed signal is applied to the instrument cluster (A1).
- The daylight provides sufficient visibility.
- It is not raining nor snowing, the windshield wiper is switched off.
- The exterior lamp switch (S1s1) is set to "Auto".
- Thus the automatic driving light function is activated.
- The overhead control panel control module (N70) monitors together with the rain sensor (B38) and the position of the wiper switch the automatic light switch daylight sensor (B32/1).
Monitoring of the rain sensor (B38) and the wiper switch enables the overhead control panel control module (N70) to actuate the automatic driving light actuation in rain and snow.
- The automatic light switch daylight sensor (B32/1) monitors together with the sun sensor (4-fold comfort automatic air conditioning) the intensity of the daylight and with the ambient light sensor (B32/1b2) it monitors the light conditions in the direction of travel.
- The vehicle approaches a tunnel:
- The ambient light sensor (B32/1b2) of the automatic light switch daylight sensor (B32/1) detects the darkened tunnel entrance.
- The automatic light switch daylight sensor (B32/1) actuates the overhead control panel control module (N70) using the "Darkness, lights ON" signal.
- The overhead control panel control module (N70) evaluates the signal and sends the "Headlamps ON" signal via the CAN interior to the front SAM control module with fuse and relay module (N10/1).
- Activated by the switch position "Auto" of the light switch module (S1), the front SAM control module with fuse and relay module (N10/1) sends the "Headlamps ON" signal over the CAN interior to the rear SAM control module with fuse and relay module (N10/2) and simultaneously actuates the standing lamp and parking lamp (E1e3 and E2e3) in the left and right front headlamp units (E1 and E2) and the low beam (E1e2 and E2e2) in the left front headlamp unit (E1) and right front headlamp unit (E2).
- The rear SAM control module with fuse and relay module (N10/2) actuates the taillamp and parking lamp (E3e2 and E4e2) and the left and right license plate lamps (E19/1 and E19/2).
- For the trailer hitch (Code 550) the "Headlamp ON" signal is also reported to the trailer recognition control module (N28/1) and voltage switched for the taillamp and parking lamp (E1e3 and E2e3) as well as for the left and right license plate lamps (E19/1 and E19/2) and the trailer hitch socket, 13-pin (X58).
- The headlamps are switched on automatically, the vehicle then enters the tunnel with its lights on.
- The automatic light switch daylight sensor (B32/1) remains active in the tunnel and triggers the automatic switching off of the driving lights as soon as light at the end of the tunnel becomes apparent.
