Function prerequisites:

Putting up rear head restraints, function (via seatbelt buckle check)  (special equipment) The automatic set-up feature for the left/right rear head restraints serves for the safety and convenience of the affected rear seat passengers wearing seatbelts.

This function is accomplished pneumatically via vacuum control. The rear SAM control module (N10/8)  reads in the switching status of the left rear seatbelt buckle and seatbelt wear convenience switch (S68/11)/right rear seatbelt buckle and seatbelt wear convenience switch (S68/12)  and thereby recognizes whether the belt tongue on the affected seatbelt is inserted into the belt buckle. If so it sends a message via the CAN bus to the PSE control module (combined) (A37):  "Left/right rear seatbelt buckled". This module then actuates the left head restraint up valve (Y24/4)/ right head restraint up valve (Y24/5).  The left/right head restraint is put up.

IMPORTANT

The head restraint in the center must be put up manually if required.
