The speed-sensitive power steering (SPS) gradually increases the manual effort required to turn the steering wheel from when the vehicle is stationary up to a speed of approximately 100 km/h.

When stationary, the steering assistance is similar to that of the hydraulic power steering (without SPS function).

The operating parameter is the vehicle speed, which with the aid of the electronic systems, adjusts the hydraulic reaction by means of the SPS solenoid valve (Y10) in the speed range from 0 to approx. 100 km/h to suit the requirements.

The electronic control system is integrated in the traction system control module (N47).
