Sequence of triggering logic
In the event of a crash the triggering strategy of the SRS system with the restraint systems control module (N2/7) is determined by the following input parameters:
- Head-on collision (1st, 2nd, 3rd threshold)
- Side-impact collision (1st threshold)
- Rear end collision (1st, 2nd threshold)
- Rollover (1st, 2nd, 3rd threshold)
- Control states of the buckles (not on model 168), if buckle scanning is programmed
- Passenger seat occupied status detected by the passenger seat occupied and child seat recognition sensor (B48)
- National versions of the vehicle
For Model 168 there is no buckle recognition system.
If there is a side impact the front side airbag and rear side airbag (special equipment) (on model 215 and model 220) and window airbag (special equipment) are triggered on the side concerned (exception: when the front passenger's seat is not in use the side airbag on the front passenger's side is not triggered).
If belt scanning is programmed (not on model 168) (only
version) in a head-on collision the driver/front passenger's airbag are already triggered when the 1st triggering threshold is exceeded, if the latch plate is not inserted in the buckle. In this connection the triggering conditions of the driver's and front passenger's seat differ. If buckle scanning is not programmed the driver/front passenger airbag are only triggered when the 2nd triggering threshold is exceeded.
Occupied status of passenger seat occupied and child seat recognition sensor (B48)

- Child seat without transponder fitted (weight of 12 kg/120 mm Ø is not reached)
Seat occupied:
- Front passenger's seat occupied (weight of 12 kg/120 mm Ø is reached)
Automatic child seat recognition (ACSR) active
Child seat detected:
- Permissible, control module-coded MB-child seat with transponder
Child seat not detected:
- No permissible MB-child seat with transponder
- Permissible MB-child seat with transponder, but not control module-coded
Alignment incorrect:
- Permissible MB child seat with transponder not fitted correctly or defective (e. g. only one resonator recognized)
The signal child seat recognized overlays the signal seat occupied. (in the case that the child seat reaches a weight of 12 kg /120 mm Ø).
The deployment logic illustrated in charts 2 and 3 relates to the deployment with buckle recognition for Models 215 and 220.
Model 168 has no buckle recognition.
