Seat Belt Comfort - Function - GF91.40-P-2000S
MODELS 208, 215, 220
The basic components of the automatic comfort-fit seat belt are:
- Strong retractor spring (1)
- Weak comfort spring (2)
- Solenoid for left front comfort-fit seat belt (K18/4)/front right (K18/5)
Solenoid for left rear comfort-fit seat belt (K18/6)/right rear (K18/7)
Model 220 only:
- Left front buckle microswitch (S68/9)/right front (S68/10)
Switch for buckle and left/right rear comfort-fit seat belt (S68/11)/(S68/12), models 215, 220 only
As of 1.9.02 the right front buckle microswitch (S68/10) is fitted on models 215 and 220. The microswitch is no longer fitted on the left side.
The emergency tensioning retractor unit is additionally equipped with the automatic comfort-fit seat belt. When the seat belt is being worn the automatic comfort-fit seat belt reduces the extension/retraction forces of the automatic belt retractor and therefore makes it more pleasant for the occupants to wear their seat belts.
Function prerequisites:
- Circuit 15R ON
- Buckle inserted
Function
In the normal condition the weak comfort spring (2) is drawn into the fully compressed condition and is therefore inoperative. The strong retractor spring (1) acts on the seat belt retractor shaft and only causes the retractor function.
In the process the spring housing with the seat belt retractor shaft rotates in the retractor direction.
When the buckle is inserted via the left front buckle microswitch (S68/9)/right (S68/10) or the switches for the buckle and left rear comfort-fit seat belt (S68/11)/right rear (S68/12) the solenoid for the left front comfort-fit seat belt (K18/4)/front right (K18/5)/left rear (K18/6) or right rear (K18/7) is actuated. The solenoid blocks the spring housing via a detent. The detent engages in the outer toothing of the spring housing, blocks the rotary motion of the housing in the retractor direction and so decouples the strong retractor spring.
The weak comfort spring which was previously blocked now acts on the seat belt retractor shaft, the comfort condition exists.
In the comfort condition, due to the effect of the weak spring, the pull out and retractor forces of the automatic belt retractor are reduced in proportion to the unwinding of the belt.
After "circuit 15R" is switched off, the actuation ensues for a further t = 5 minutes if "circuit 15R" is switched on and the buckle is inserted.
