Head-On Collision - Function - GF91.60-P-2006M

MODEL 215, 220 as of 1.9.02

Shown on model 202

Moderately severe head-on collision (1. triggering threshold)

IMPORTANT Only the emergency tensioning retractors are activated.

IMPORTANT The illustration shows the chronological sequence of the emergency tensioning retractors in the event of a moderately severe head-on collision. The times that are given are merely for the purpose of illustrating the chronological sequence. The values are therefore only examples and not generally valid in the sense of a specification or mandatory requirement.

Moderately severe head-on collision  (1st triggering threshold) If moderately severe head-on collision occurs, the restraint systems control unit (N2/7) registers average deceleration via the driver-side frontal acceleration sensor (B48/1) and the passenger-side frontal acceleration sensor (B48/2).

In this type of impact the seat belt restraining system function in combination with the emergency tensioning retractors ensures the best possible degree of passenger safety.

The restraint system control unit (N2/7) therefore only sends the ignition pulse to the:

Shown on model 202

Severe head-on collision (triggering threshold 2)

IMPORTANT The illustration shows the chronological sequence of the front airbags and the emergency tensioning retractors in the event of a severe head-on collision. The times that are shown are merely to indicate the extremely rapid speed at which the sidebag is inflated and deflated. The values are therefore only examples and not generally valid in the sense of a specification or mandatory requirement.

Severe head-on collision  (2nd or 3rd triggering threshold) If a severe head-on collision occurs, the restraint systems control unit (N2/7) registers severe deceleration via the driver-side frontal acceleration sensor (B48/1) and the passenger-side frontal acceleration sensor (B48/2).

In this type of impact the airbag and seat belt system restraining functions in combination with the emergency tensioning retractors ensure the best possible degree of passenger safety.

The restraint systems control unit (N2/7) only forwards the ignition pulse to the:

Front passenger side

If necessary because of the severity of the impact, the restraint systems control unit (N2/7) also sends the ignition pulse to the front passenger airbag squib 2 (R12/5) (only if seat has been recognized as occupied).

IMPORTANT If, via the passenger seat occupied and child seat recognition sensor (B48) a child seat mounted to the front passenger seat has been recognized, the front passenger airbag will never be deployed.
