	Remove/install
	Risk of death  caused by vehicle slipping or toppling off of the lifting platform.	Align vehicle between columns of vehicle lift and position four support plates at vehicle lift support points specified by vehicle manufacturer.	AS00.00-Z-0010-01A

1.1	Deactivate easy entry/exit function	Vehicles with memory package (driver seat, steering column, mirrors) code 275 Otherwise the driver seat and steering wheel move into a different position when the driver door is open or closed. The upper frame will be damaged if retaining device is installed. Deactivation ensues via buttons on the steering wheel in the "Comfort" menu of the multifunction display.
2	Turn steering wheel to central position (front wheels in straight ahead position) and secure with the retaining device	On a disengaged steering coupling (25) the steering wheel should not be turned because the spiral contact coil will be destroyed.

4	Detach SPS [PML] solenoid valve electrical connector (40)
5.1	Remove shield (23m)	Model 215, 220
6	Remove bolt (25a) of steering coupling (25) on bottom side of steering shaft (80a)		*BA46.10-P-1001-01E
7	Insert a suitable tool into hole in steering coupling (25) and pull steering shaft (80a) together with locking plate (25f) upward out of steering coupling (25)	Do not counterhold at the rubber boot or at the plastic temperature protection disk on the bottom side of the steering shaft (80a). Do not use force (hammer blows, strong lever action) because the lower steering shaft (80a) is sensitive to lateral dynamic force and can be damaged. Installation:  Insert the steering shaft (80a) all the way into the steering coupling (25); when doing so, pay attention to the studs on the steering coupling (25) and the groove in the steering shaft (80a) (arrows). Installation:  Replace locking plate (25f) with self-locking nut.
8	Remove bolt (25b) from steering coupling (25)	Installation:  Replace self-locking nut.

9	Pull steering coupling (25) carefully out of the control valve of the rack-and-pinion steering (23) (predetermined fracture point on control valve)	Do not use force (hammer blows, a lot of leverage), if necessary expand clamping groove slightly using a screwdriver. Installation:  Turn rack-and-pinion steering (23) to center position, mount steering coupling (25):

10	Install in the reverse order
11	Check steering for proper operation
