Supplemental restraint system (SRS), function - GF91.60-P-0002GH
MODEL 163 up to 30.11.99
Function
The heart of the supplementary restraint system (SRS) is an intelligent, programmable control module capable of diagnosis ("SPARC" - S ingle P oint A utomotive R estraint C ontroller).
Two redundant acceleration sensors and an additional safety sensor are integrated into the control module. The control module continuously compares the readings from the acceleration sensors with stored characteristic values allowing it to recognize whether a crash has occurred. If it recognizes a crash, it determines the type and severity of the collision.
It then triggers precisely the airbag/emergency tensioning retractors required for optimum protection of the passengers taking into consideration the switching statuses of the belt buckle switches (S68/7 and S68/8), as well as the data received from the electronic evaluation circuitry in the passenger seat occupied and child seat recognition sensor (B48).
Simultaneously, a digital crash signal is transferred to the all-activity module (N10). The all-activity module (N10) then unlocks all vehicle doors and switches on the interior lighting.
The additional safety sensor in the control module serves for avoiding unintentional actuation of the airbags/emergency tensioning retractors.
