COMPLAINT
Engine oil level above max.
On engines equipped with an oil level sensor, the instrument cluster indicates that the engine contains too much oil, on all other engines this can be read off on the oil dipstick.
CAUSE
The vehicle is mainly driven in the city or used frequent short trips where the engine operating temperature might not be reached.
With frequent cold starts and lots of short trips, fuel can enter the engine oil in non-combusted condition. Fuel outgas-sing through crankcase ventilation is only possible once the operating temperature is reached.
If the operating temperature is not reached, the ingressed fuel collects in the engine oil which in turn leads to a significant increase in the oil level.
The reduced viscosity can cause engine timing malfunctions. The engine oil's lubricating characteristics are reduced.
On vehicles that are primarily used for short trips, the engine oil level should be checked on a regular basis.
REMEDY
- Check tank capacity as per XENTRY test step for diesel and water. If necessary, have the fuel analyzed externally. If required, drain the fuel tank, taking the given safety regulations into account.
- Replace engine oil and filter.
No warranty/goodwill claims since a fault has not occurred with the engine.
