Medium severe head-on collision
The illustration shows the chronological behavior of the emergency tensioning retractors in the event of a moderately severe head-on collision. The times that are given are merely for the purpose of illustrating the chronological sequence. The values are therefore only examples and not generally valid in the sense of a specification or mandatory requirement.
Moderately severe head-on collision (shown on model 210)
(1st triggering threshold)
In the event of a moderately severe head-on collision the emergency tensioning retractor (ETR) with airbag (AB) control unit (N2/2) registers moderate deceleration.
In this type of impact the seat belt restraining system function in combination with the emergency tensioning retractors ensures the best possible degree of passenger safety.
The emergency tensioning retractor (ETR) with airbag (AB) control unit (N2/2) only transmits the ignition pulse to the driver (R12/1) and front passenger (R12/2) ETR squibs.
Front passenger seat occupancy
In vehicles with seat occupied recognition or automatic child seat recognition the occupancy status of the front passenger seat is recorded.
If the front passenger seat is not occupied or a child seat is not detected the front passenger side airbag, sidebag and ETR will not be deployed.
Protection for non-belted vehicle occupants (only USA version and vehicles up to 6/93)
In these vehicles a belt buckle query (driver seat, front passenger seat) is performed.
Driver side:
If the latch has not been inserted, the driver airbag is deployed when the 1st triggering threshold is exceeded.
Passenger side:
If the latch has not been inserted, the front passenger airbag is deployed when the 1st triggering threshold is exceeded (only ignition stage 1 in model 220) if the seat occupied recognition has detected that the front passenger seat is occupied.
Shown on model 202
Severe head-on collision
The illustration shows the chronological sequence of the front airbags and the emergency tensioning retractors in the event of a severe head-on collision. The times that are shown are merely to indicate the extremely rapid speed at which the sidebag is inflated and deflated. The values are therefore only examples and not generally valid in the sense of a specification or mandatory requirement.
Severe head-on collision (shown on model 210)
(2nd triggering threshold)
In the event of a severe head-on collision the emergency tensioning retractor (ETR) with airbag (AB) control unit (N2/2) registers severe deceleration.
In this type of impact the airbag and seat belt system restraining functions in combination with the emergency tensioning retractors ensure the best possible degree of passenger safety.
The emergency tensioning retractor (ETR) with airbag (AB) control unit (N2/2) passes the ignition pulse to the:
- driver airbag squib (R12/3)
- front passenger airbag squib (R12/8)
- driver ETR squib (R12/1)
- passenger ETR ignition squib (R12/2)
Front passenger side occupancy
In vehicles with seat occupied recognition or automatic child seat recognition the occupancy status of the front passenger seat is recorded.
If the front passenger seat is not occupied or a child seat is not detected the front passenger side airbag, sidebag and ETR will not be deployed.
