The front passenger seat occupied recognition sensors (B41) change the resistance when pressure is applied. This is registered and evaluated by the ETR control module with airbag.

The foil pressure sensors are designed so that a force of 12 kg over a surface with a diameter of 120 mm is required for actuating the occupied signal.

When the emergency tensioning retractor control module with airbag (AB) recognizes the "seat not occupied"  signal the supplemental restraint equipment (airbag, side airbag and emergency tensioning retractor) on the passenger side are not triggered  .
