Description & Operation: Notes

Differential assembly is hypoid gear type in which centerline of drive pinion is mounted below centerline of ring gear. Differential assembly uses an integral carrier housing design which means axle shafts are not part of housing. Drive axles are separate assemblies which are bolted to stub axles of differential assembly.

Removable rear cover permits inspection and service of differential. Models may be equipped with either automatic locking differential (ASD) or limited slip differential. All adjustments, except pinion bearing preload, are performed using shims. Pinion bearing preload is set using a collapsible spacer. All models use integral carrier differential assembly with 5-link rear suspension.
