Bleeding Brake System: 300SD
- If vehicle is equipped with Acceleration Slip Regulation (ASR), turn ignition off. Remove cover on hydraulic unit. Remove cap from brake fluid reservoir.
- Using a jumper wire, connect Gray/Green wire from switchover valve to power supply for fuse No. 28 in fuse box. Using another jumper wire, connect Yellow/Green wire from switchover valve to ground. Ensure switchover valve is energized during brake bleeding procedure.
- Connect pressure bleeding equipment according to equipment manufacturer's instructions. Caliper bleeding sequence is RR, LR, RF and LF. If brake system was opened downstream of hydraulic unit (brake calipers, brake hoses and brakelines), bleed approximately 1/10th of a quart of brake fluid from each brake caliper.
- If brake system was opened at hydraulic unit or upstream of hydraulic unit (ASR pressure reservoir, ASR charging pump, tandem master brake cylinder and brakelines), bleed approximately 1/10th of a quart of brake fluid from each brake caliper.
- If brake system was opened at hydraulic unit or upstream of hydraulic unit (ASR pressure reservoir, ASR charging pump, tandem master brake cylinder and brakelines), start engine. Press brake pedal down hard and quickly with caliper bleed screw open. Hold brake pedal down for approximately 3 seconds. Close caliper bleed screw, then slowly release brake pedal. Repeat this step 5 times for each caliper. After repeating this step 5 times for each caliper, turn ignition off and repeat step 4).
- On ASR equipped vehicles, start engine. Open hydraulic unit bleed screw labeled "SP". Bleed approximately 1/10th of a quart of brake fluid until brake fluid flows clear and free of air. Close hydraulic unit bleed screw "SP". ASR charging pump will run for approximately 30 seconds. Turn engine off.
- Connect 2-pin electrical connector for master brake cylinder switchover valve on brake master cylinder. Install fuse No. 28 from fuse box located next to master cylinder. Disconnect pressure bleeding equipment. Fill brake fluid reservoir to proper level.
