Computerized Engine Control Description

Electronic Diesel System (EDS) consists of electronic speed control (ELR), Exhaust Gas Recirculation (EGR), intake manifold air pressure control (5-cyl. only) and system diagnosis. EDS controls idle speed electromagnetic actuator, which in turn controls injection pump governor. EDS also controls vacuum transducer for EGR valve operation. The EDS system can be diagnosed and tested using test connector and impulse readout tester.

NOTE: Components are grouped into 2 categories. The first category covers INPUT DEVICES, which control or produce voltage signals monitored by the EDS control unit. The second category covers OUTPUT SIGNALS, which are components controlled by the EDS control unit.
