Cylinder Block Assembly: Notes
The light aluminum alloy cylinders are very sensitive to damage and scratches, as well as contamination. The cylinders should therefore be handled very carefully. When honing, the cylinder bores must be adapted to the dimensions of available repair stage pistons with group No. 1 or 2. The specified piston clearance must be observed.
In the event of excessive scoring and heavy cylinder wear, the cylinders can be machine bored (if the proper procedures are used). Upon re-boring or honing, be sure to apply "silicone-lapping" according to the "Sunnen" method, to expose the silicone crystals.
NOTE:
DO NOT
attempt replacement of pistons if facilities for the "Sunnen" procedure are not available. If the "silicone- lapping" step is omitted, piston seizure will be the inevitable result.
