Steering Column: Removal

  1. Disconnect battery ground cable. On 300TD, remove screws retaining upper and lower cover on instrument panel, and remove covers. Remove steering wheel.
    CAUTION: Use extreme care when working on, or around steering wheel (it contains air bag unit).
  2. Remove instrument cluster by pulling outward as far as possible, and loosening tachometer, temperature, and oil pressure connections.
  3. Remove steering lock. Disconnect wiring connectors. Remove Allen head screw from flexible coupling, and all nuts and screws retaining casing and column to dashboard. Remove steering column housing.
