SERVICE INFORMATION

The front frame cross member on 123 chassis vehicles has been modified, beginning November 1980.

For the new cross member a modified plumb bob centering insert for reference bore FVB with a 20 +/- 0.1 mm diameter (previously 22 mm dia.) is necessary with the plumb bob mounting fixture in order to measure frame alignment.

The existing beam compass measuring set (Tool No. 123 589 06 63 00) can be updated with a new plumb bob mounting fixture that fits old or new cross member designs. However, the previous mounting fixture cannot be used on the new cross member.

New beam compass measuring sets include the new plumb bob mounting fixture with both plumb bob centering inserts

NOTE: Prior to mounting the fixture on the cross member, screw in the respective centering insert. Make sure that the flat surfaces of the centering insert are at a right angle to the driving direction.
