Instrument Cluster Removal/Installation: Notes

CAUTION:
  • If the instrument cluster is replaced with a new one, perform the configuration after replacing it.
  • If configuration is not performed, the system does not operate normally.
  1. Disconnect the negative battery terminal. (See NEGATIVE BATTERY TERMINAL DISCONNECTION/CONNECTION .)
  2. Remove the following parts:
    1. Passenger-side scuff plate (See SCUFF PLATE REMOVAL/INSTALLATION .)
    2. Passenger-side front side trim (See FRONT SIDE TRIM REMOVAL/INSTALLATION .)
    3. Passenger-side A-pillar trim (See A-PILLAR TRIM REMOVAL/INSTALLATION .)
    4. Passenger-side lower panel (See PASSENGER-SIDE LOWER PANEL REMOVAL/INSTALLATION .)
    5. Center panel No. 2 (See CENTER PANEL No. 2 REMOVAL/INSTALLATION .)
    6. Meter hood (See METER HOOD REMOVAL/INSTALLATION .)
  3. Remove the screws. (See INSTRUMENT CLUSTER INSTALLATION NOTE .)

    CAUTION:
    • When removing the instrument cluster, the instrument cluster may contact the light switch, wiper and washer switch, or the start stop unit and the instrument cluster may be scratched. When removing the instrument cluster, cover the light switch, wiper and washer switch, and start stop unit using a rag.
  4. Cover the light switch, wiper and washer switch, and start stop unit using a rag.

  5. Pull the instrument cluster outward to detach the instrument cluster clip from the dashboard.

  6. Tilt the instrument cluster in the direction of the arrow shown in the figure.

  7. Disconnect the connector.
  8. Lift up the instrument cluster.
    CAUTION:
    • If the instrument cluster is left for a long time with its screen facing down, grease applied to the needles may spill and the needles may not operate smoothly. When storing the instrument cluster, store it with its screen facing upward.

  9. Remove the instrument cluster in the direction of the arrow shown in the figure.

  10. Install in the reverse order of removal.
  11. When replacing the instrument cluster, perform the instrument cluster configuration using the M-MDS.
    1. Connect the M-MDS to the DLC-2.
    2. Switch the ignition ON (engine off or on).
    3. Perform the following procedure using the M-MDS.
      CAUTION:
      • If the configuration fails, perform the configuration again.
        1. Press [Start] for the vehicle identification.
        2. Press the [Toolbox] tab.
        3. Press the [Work Support] icon.
        4. Press [Configuration].
        5. Press [Run] for [Configuration].
        6. Press [IC].
    4. Perform the servicing following the instructions on the screen.
      CAUTION:
      • When performing the configuration, CAN communication is cut temporarily and communication error DTCs may be detected. After performing the configuration, perform the DTC inspection and clear DTCs if any are displayed.
    5. Perform the DTC inspection. (Refer to [DTC INSPECTION ] )
      • If a DTC is displayed, clear it. (Refer to [CLEARING DTC ] )
        • If the DTC is displayed again, repair or replace the malfunctioning location according to the applicable DTC troubleshooting.
    6. If the configuration fails, perform the configuration procedure again.
