Body Control Module (BCM) Removal/Installation

CAUTION:
  • When replacing the body control module (BCM), perform the configuration to assure that the system operates correctly.
  • Do not do the following during the body control module (BCM) configuration because the windshield wipers may operate even if the wiper switch is turned off, which could lead to personal injury or part damage.
    • Put a hand near windshield glass
    • Raise windshield wiper arm
    • Put object on windshield glass
NOTE:
  • Prepare 2 remote transmitters because key programming will be necessary after replacing the body control module (BCM).
  1. When replacing the body control module (BCM), perform the following procedure.
    1. Verify the setting values for the following. (See VEHICLE STATUS MONITOR SETTING .)
      • Personalization features
      • Vehicle status monitor
      NOTE:
      • For personalization features setting using the center display, refer to Mazda Connect's [PERSONALIZATION FEATURES] .
    2. Verify if the following Mazda genuine accessories are installed.
      • Burglar Alarm
      • Intrusion Sensor
      • Ambient Lighting
      • Welcome Lamp
      • Power Supply_IG
      • Power Supply_TNS
      • LED HL_Position
      • LED HL_DRL
      NOTE:
      • The accessory differs depending on the market or period of manufacture.
      CAUTION:
      • If the body control module (BCM) is replaced, Mazda genuine accessories stop functioning. If the body control module (BCM) is replaced, perform the accessory activation.
    3. Leave the front doors on both sides and the liftgate open until the synchronization between the following units and the body control module (BCM) is complete.
      • Electrical Supply Unit (ESU)
      • Door-electrical supply unit
    4. Turn the wiper and washer switch off.
    5. Perform the body control module (BCM) configuration using the M-MDS. (Refer to [CONFIGURATION] in the troubleshooting information.)
  2. Switch the ignition OFF.
  3. Disconnect the negative battery terminal. (See NEGATIVE BATTERY TERMINAL DISCONNECTION/CONNECTION .)
  4. Remove the front scuff plate (LH). (See FRONT SCUFF PLATE REMOVAL/INSTALLATION .)
  5. Remove the front side trim (LH). (See FRONT SIDE TRIM REMOVAL/INSTALLATION .)
  6. Disconnect the connectors.

  7. Remove the bolt.
  8. Move the body control module (BCM) in the direction of the arrow shown in the figure below and detach the body control module (BCM) hook from the body control module (BCM) bracket.

  9. Remove the body control module (BCM).
  10. Install in the reverse order of removal.
  11. If the body control module (BCM) is replaced, perform the following procedure.
    NOTE:
    • For the data to be written to the new body control module (BCM) during configuration, either of the following is selected depending on the vehicle conditions.
      • Data read from body control module (BCM) before replacement
      • Data as of shipment from manufacturer (As-Built data)
        • If configuration is performed using the data as of shipment from manufacturer (As-Built data), the odometer indication will be 0 km.
      • Which data was used can be confirmed from the message displayed at the bottom of the screen that indicates the completion of the M-MDS configuration.
    1. Perform the body control module (BCM) configuration using the M-MDS. (Refer to [CONFIGURATION] in the troubleshooting information.)
    2. Perform the following procedure using the M-MDS.
      1. Immobilizer system-related part programming (See IMMOBILIZER SYSTEM-RELATED PARTS PROGRAMMING .)
      2. Position memory system memory clearing (With position memory system) (See POSITION MEMORY SYSTEM MEMORY CLEARING .)
      3. Seat position initial learning (With position memory system) (See SEAT POSITION INITIAL LEARNING .)
      4. Vehicle control module (VCM) initial setting (See VCM INITIAL SETTING .)
      5. Activating remote control by smart phone (See ACTIVATING REMOTE CONTROL BY SMART PHONE .)
    3. Switch the ignition ON (engine off or on) and wait for 1 s or more, then synchronize the following parts with the body control module (BCM).
      • Electrical Supply Unit (ESU)
      • Door-electrical supply unit
    4. Switch the ignition OFF.
    5. Switch the ignition ON (engine off) again.
    6. Perform the DTC inspection. (Refer to DTC INSPECTION in the troubleshooting information)
      • If a DTC is displayed, clear it. (Refer to CLEARING DTC in the troubleshooting information)
    7. If configuration is performed using the As-Built data, input the setting values for the following verified before replacing the BCM.
      NOTE:
      • For personalization features setting using the center display, refer to Mazda Connect's [PERSONALIZATION FEATURES] .
    8. Activate the Mazda genuine accessories verified before the part replacement. (Refer to [ACCESSORY ACTIVATION] in the troubleshooting information)
