Rear Window Glass Removal

Replacement parts 

Spacer (When reusing rear window glass)

Location of use: Liftgate panel
  1. Disconnect the negative battery terminal. (See NEGATIVE BATTERY TERMINAL DISCONNECTION/CONNECTION .)
  2. Remove the following parts.
    1. Liftgate upper trim (See LIFTGATE UPPER TRIM REMOVAL/INSTALLATION .)
    2. Liftgate side trim (See LIFTGATE SIDE TRIM REMOVAL/INSTALLATION .)
    3. Liftgate recess (See LIFTGATE RECESS REMOVAL/INSTALLATION .)
    4. Door lock switch (liftgate) (With door lock switch (liftgate)) (See DOOR LOCK SWITCH REMOVAL/INSTALLATION .)
    5. Power liftgate (PLG) rear switch (With power liftgate (PLG) rear switch) (See POWER LIFTGATE (PLG) REAR SWITCH REMOVAL/INSTALLATION .)
    6. Liftgate lower trim (See LIFTGATE LOWER TRIM REMOVAL/INSTALLATION .)
    7. Side spoiler (See SIDE SPOILER REMOVAL/INSTALLATION .)
    8. Rear spoiler (See REAR SPOILER REMOVAL .)
    9. Rear finisher (See REAR FINISHER REMOVAL/INSTALLATION .)
    10. Rear wiper arm and blade (See REAR WIPER ARM AND BLADE REMOVAL/INSTALLATION .)
    11. Rear wiper motor (See REAR WIPER MOTOR REMOVAL/INSTALLATION .)
    12. Outer bushing (See REAR WIPER MOTOR REMOVAL/INSTALLATION .)
    13. Glass antenna terminal cover (See ANTENNA FEEDER NO. 2 REMOVAL/INSTALLATION .)
  3. Disconnect the connectors.

  4. Apply protective tape along the edges of the liftgate panel and rear window glass.
    NOTE:
    • Overlap and apply the protective tape to the corners to prevent damage to the liftgate panel.

  5. Make an alignment mark for the rear window glass on the liftgate panel. (When reusing rear window glass)
  6. Cut the end of the piano wire diagonally.
    WARNING:
    • Using piano wire with bare hands can cause injury. Always wear gloves when using piano wire.

  7. Pass the piano wire from the cabin side through the sealant.

  8. Wind each end of the piano wire around a bar.
    NOTE:
    • Since the piano wire can easily break if it is heated locally, cool it or change the area used as you cut the sealant.
    • Cut the sealant, being careful not to cut pin B.

  9. Secure one end of the piano wire and cut the rear window glass sealant and pin A as you pull the other end of the piano wire.

  10. Pinch pin B from the inside of the vehicle and detach pin B.
  11. Remove the rear window glass.
  12. Remove pin A from the liftgate panel.
  13. Remove the fasteners.

  14. To reuse the rear window glass, perform the following procedure.
    1. Place an alignment mark for the spacer and fastener on the rear window glass.

    2. Remove the spacers.
    3. Remove the fasteners.
