Check Sheet C
If it is not possible to determine whether the brake pedal feels stiff or soft and the parts to be inspected cannot be determined, perform detailed inspection C of the vehicle after implementing the following inquiries. (See DETAILED INSPECTION C OF VEHICLE .) How was the vehicle driven just before it felt like the brakes were not operating? (Was vehicle driven under high brake load?)
| □ | Vehicle was not driven/left parked | |
| □ | Vehicle was driven on unpaved road (rough road) | Excessive brake pad retraction due to vibration |
| □ | Driving on winding/mountain roads | Brake fade due to heavy load |
| □ | Heavy use of brakes on downhill roads | Brake fade due to heavy load |
| □ | Traveling through towns and cities | |
| □ | Conditions other than above () | |
Before and after it felt like the brakes did not operate, was there any unusual odor?
| □ | Yes |
| □ | No |
| □ | Unknown |
If yes, was the parking brake not released?
| □ | Yes | Reduction in effectiveness of friction materials due to forgetting to release |
| □ | No | |
| □ | It did not happen at that time, but in the past the vehicle was driven with the parking brake not released for several kilometers. | Whitening of friction materials |
| □ | Unknown | |
Did it feel like the brakes did not operate just after the engine was started?
| □ | The brakes did not operate after some driving. | Approx. () min after starting Approx. () km after driving | |
| □ | Braking just after starting the engine | Was the engine warmed up? | () Yes () No |
| □ | How long was the vehicle parked until the engine was started? | Approx. () h | |
| □ | How many times were the brakes applied after the engine was started? | () times | |
When it felt like the brakes did not operate, did it feel like there was any abnormality in the engine speed?
| □ | Engine speed was normal. | |
| □ | Engine speed increased: Negative pressure decreased | From approx. () rpm to approx. () rpm |
| □ | Engine speed decreased: Negative pressure decreased | From approx. () rpm to approx. () rpm |
| □ | Engine stall/was stalled: When brakes were pumped after the engine stall, negative pressure decreased | |
Describe the load condition on the vehicle such as the luggage and the number of occupants when it felt like the brakes did not operate.*1
*1: To verify if there are too many occupants or overloading.
| Number of occupants | Person(s) |
| Heavy items | |
| Input the weight of the load if known. | kg |
Significant occupant over-capacity (such as 10 occupants in 5-occupant vehicle) or heavy loads can cause the vehicle posture to lower significantly or the tires to deform even with the specified air pressure, adversely affecting the effectiveness of the brakes. Explain to the customer to avoid occupant over-capacity or overloading.
