Without Steering Warmer System

  1. Switch the ignition off.
  2. Disconnect the negative battery terminal and wait for 1 min or more. (See NEGATIVE BATTERY TERMINAL DISCONNECTION/CONNECTION .)
  3. Lower the steering wheel to the bottommost position.
  4. Pull the steering wheel to furthest position rearward.
  5. Verify the service hole on the back side of the steering wheel.

  6. Insert the tool in to the service hole.

    Recommended tool 

    • TORX driver (T30 (diam. 6))
  7. Move the tool in the direction of the arrow shown in the figure and disengage driver-side air bag module tab A from steering wheel hook A.

  8. Rotate the steering wheel until the service hole can be seen from behind the steering wheel.

  9. Insert the tool in to the service hole.

  10. Move the tool in the direction of the arrow shown in the figure and disengage driver-side air bag module tab B from steering wheel hook B.
    NOTE:
    • By moving the tool, the omega spring is pressed at the same time allowing the omega spring to be removed from steering wheel hook D.

  11. Rotate the steering wheel until the service hole can be seen from behind the steering wheel.

  12. Insert the tool in to the service hole.

    CAUTION:
    • The driver-side air bag module could be damaged if it is dropped while it is completely disengaged from the steering wheel. Hold the driver-side air bag module securely with a hand while it is completely disengaged.
  13. Move the tool in the direction of the arrow shown in the figure and disengage driver-side air bag module tab C from steering wheel hook C.
    NOTE:
    • By moving the tool, the omega spring is pressed at the same time allowing the omega spring to be removed from steering wheel hook E.

  14. Remove the air bag module from the steering wheel.
  15. Using a flathead screwdriver, lift the locking device carefully, however do not remove it.

  16. Disconnect the air bag module connectors.
  17. Disconnect the horn switch connector.
  18. Remove the driver-side air bag module.
