Back-Up Light Switch Removal/Installation

  1. Disconnect the negative battery terminal. (See NEGATIVE BATTERY TERMINAL DISCONNECTION/CONNECTION .)
  2. Remove the parts on the cabin side.
    1. Remove the shift lever knob.

    2. Remove the shift panel component. (See SHIFT PANEL REMOVAL/INSTALLATION .)
    3. Remove the upper panel. (See UPPER PANEL REMOVAL/INSTALLATION .)
    4. Remove the parking brake lever boot panel. (See PARKING BRAKE LEVER BOOT PANEL REMOVAL/INSTALLATION )
    5. Remove the rear console. (See REAR CONSOLE REMOVAL/INSTALLATION .)
    6. Remove the nut, then remove the insulator and change insulator components (outer/inner).

    7. Remove the bolt, then remove the shift lever component.

  3. Place a clean rag behind the engine so that the engine does not contact the rear housing when it is tilted.

  4. Remove the vehicle's underside parts.
    1. Remove the front crossmember under cover. (See FRONT CROSSMEMBER UNDER COVER REMOVAL/INSTALLATION .)
    2. Remove the member bracket. (With member bracket)

    3. Remove the tunnel member.

    4. Detach the HO2S clip from the catalytic converter (TWC). (See HEATED OXYGEN SENSOR (HO2S) REMOVAL/INSTALLATION .)
    5. Disconnect the catalytic converter (TWC) from the exhaust manifold. (See EXHAUST SYSTEM REMOVAL/INSTALLATION .)
    6. Suspend the catalytic converter (TWC) using a cable as shown in the figure.

    7. Remove the power plant frame. (See POWER PLANT FRAME REMOVAL .)
    WARNING:
    • Verify that the transmission is securely supported by a transmission jack. If the transmission falls off, it can cause serious injury or death, and damage to the vehicle.
  5. Tilt the transmission while being careful not to allow parts on the back of the engine to contact the vehicle body.
  6. Disconnect the back-up light switch connector.
  7. Detach the clip and disconnect the back-up light switch connector from the transmission.

  8. Detach the tab and remove the clip from the back-up light switch connector.
  9. Remove the back-up light switch.

  10. Install a new gasket and back-up light switch.
  11. Connect the clip to the back-up light switch connector.

  12. Install the back-up light switch connector to the transmission.
  13. Install the vehicle's underside parts.
    1. Install the power plant frame. (See POWER PLANT FRAME INSTALLATION .)
    2. Remove the tunnel member temporarily.

    3. Connect the catalytic converter (TWC) to the exhaust manifold. (See EXHAUST SYSTEM REMOVAL/INSTALLATION .)
    4. Install the HO2S clip to the catalytic converter (TWC). (See HEATED OXYGEN SENSOR (HO2S) REMOVAL/INSTALLATION .)
    5. Install the tunnel member.

    6. Install the member bracket. (With member bracket)

    7. Install the front crossmember under cover. (See FRONT CROSSMEMBER UNDER COVER REMOVAL/INSTALLATION )
  14. Install the parts on the cabin side.
    1. Apply grease to the positions of the shift lever component shown in the figure.

    3. Install the insulator, change insulator components (outer/inner).

    4. Install the rear console. (See REAR CONSOLE REMOVAL/INSTALLATION .)
    5. Install the parking brake lever boot panel. (See PARKING BRAKE LEVER BOOT PANEL REMOVAL/INSTALLATION .)
    6. Install the upper panel. (See UPPER PANEL REMOVAL/INSTALLATION .)
    7. Install the shift panel component. (See SHIFT PANEL REMOVAL/INSTALLATION .)
    8. Install the shift lever knob.

  15. Connect the negative battery terminal. (See NEGATIVE BATTERY TERMINAL DISCONNECTION/CONNECTION .)
