Front Shock Absorber Disposal
WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2016 Mazda MX-5 Miata. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
WARNING:
- Whenever drilling into a front shock absorber, wear protective eye wear. The gas in the shock absorber is pressurized and could spray metal filings into the eye.
- Place the front shock absorber on a level surface or with the piston pointing downwards.
- Drill a 2-3 mm {0.08-0.11 in} hole at the point 10 mm {0.39 in} from the lower end of the tube so that the gas can escape.
- Turn the hole made in Step 2 downwards and drain the oil by pumping the piston rod up and down several times.
- Cut off the bottom end of the front shock absorber.
- Dispose of waste oil according to local waste disposal laws.
