Steering Shift Switch Inspection

WARNING:
NOTE:
  • When removing the driver-side air bag module, it is necessary to rotate the steering wheel. If the ignition has been switched off with the driver's door closed, the steering wheel will be locked. Perform the procedure from Steps  13 so that the steering wheel will not be locked.
  1. Switch the ignition ON (engine off or on).
  2. Open the driver's door.
  3. Switch the ignition off.
  4. Disconnect the negative battery terminal and wait for 1 min or more. (See NEGATIVE BATTERY TERMINAL DISCONNECTION/CONNECTION .)
  5. Remove the driver-side air bag module. (See DRIVER-SIDE AIR BAG MODULE REMOVAL [TWO-STEP DEPLOYMENT CONTROL SYSTEM - US/CANADA SPEC.] .) (See (See DRIVER-SIDE AIR BAG MODULE INSTALLATION [TWO-STEP DEPLOYMENT CONTROL SYSTEM - US/CANADA SPEC.] .)
  6. Disconnect the steering shift switch wiring harness connector.

  7. Remove the column cover. (See COLUMN COVER REMOVAL/INSTALLATION .)
  8. Using a precision flat head screwdriver, release the tab.

  9. Measure the continuity between steering shift switch wiring harness connector terminals A-B and terminals D-E.

    Up switch

    Down switch

    Switch Terminal Test condition Continuity
    Up switch A-B Up switch is operated (up switch is pulled outward) Continuity
    Up switch is not operated (up switch is not pulled outward) No continuity
    Down switch D-E Down switch is operated (down switch is pulled outward) Continuity
    Down switch is not operated (down switch is not pulled outward) No continuity
