Steering Shift Switch Inspection
WARNING:
- Handling the air bag module improperly can accidentally operate (deploy) the air bag module, which may seriously injure you. NOTE:
- Switch the ignition ON (engine off or on).
- Open the driver's door.
- Switch the ignition off.
- Disconnect the negative battery terminal and wait for 1 min or more. (See NEGATIVE BATTERY TERMINAL DISCONNECTION/CONNECTION .)
- Remove the driver-side air bag module. (See DRIVER-SIDE AIR BAG MODULE REMOVAL [TWO-STEP DEPLOYMENT CONTROL SYSTEM - US/CANADA SPEC.] .) (See (See DRIVER-SIDE AIR BAG MODULE INSTALLATION [TWO-STEP DEPLOYMENT CONTROL SYSTEM - US/CANADA SPEC.] .)
- Disconnect the steering shift switch wiring harness connector.
- Remove the column cover. (See COLUMN COVER REMOVAL/INSTALLATION .)
- Using a precision flat head screwdriver, release the tab.
- Measure the continuity between steering shift switch wiring harness connector terminals A-B and terminals D-E.

Down switch
Switch Terminal Test condition Continuity Up switch A-B Up switch is operated (up switch is pulled outward) Continuity Up switch is not operated (up switch is not pulled outward) No continuity Down switch D-E Down switch is operated (down switch is pulled outward) Continuity Down switch is not operated (down switch is not pulled outward) No continuity - If there is any malfunction, replace the steering shift switch.
