Propeller Shaft Removal/Installation: Notes

CAUTION:
  • If the constant velocity joint is bent during propeller shaft removal/installation or transportation after servicing, the constant velocity joint boot may contact the metallic cover and the boot may be damaged. Insert a rag between the boot and the metallic cover before servicing to protect the boot

  1. Remove the floor under cover No. 1. (See FLOOR UNDER COVER REMOVAL/INSTALLATION .)
  2. Remove the floor under cover No. 2. (See FLOOR UNDER COVER REMOVAL/INSTALLATION .)
  3. Remove the fasteners in the order shown in the figure.

  4. Remove the insulator.
  5. Remove the following parts.
    1. Brace bar

    2. Tunnel member
  6. For (VIN M) vehicles, perform the following procedure.
    1. Disconnect the negative battery terminal. (See NEGATIVE BATTERY TERMINAL DISCONNECTION/CONNECTION .)
    2. Remove the TWC from the mount rubber.

    3. Disconnect the exhaust shutter valve connector.
    4. Disconnect the wiring harness clips.
    5. Remove the nut.

    6. Disconnect the bracket from the TWC.
    7. Disconnect the TWC from the main silencer. (See EXHAUST SYSTEM REMOVAL/INSTALLATION [(VIN M)] .)
    8. Suspend the TWC using a cable as shown in the figure.

  7. For (VIN Y) vehicles, perform the following procedure.
    1. Remove the nut.

    2. Disconnect the bracket from the TWC.
    3. Remove the TWC from the mount rubber.

    4. Disconnect the TWC from the main silencer. (See EXHAUST SYSTEM REMOVAL/INSTALLATION (VIN Y) .)
    5. Suspend the TWC using a cable as shown in the figure.

  8. Remove in the order indicated in the figure.
  9. Install in the reverse order of removal.
  10. Perform a road test and verify that there is no abnormal vibration or noise.

    4 Bush, spacer
    5 Washer
    6 Propeller shaft

    (See Propeller Shaft Installation Note .)
