Clock Spring Removal/Installation: Notes

WARNING:
- Handling the driver-side air bag module improperly can accidentally deploy the air bag module, which may seriously injure you. Read the air bag system service warnings and cautions before handling the air bag module. Refer to AIR BAG SYSTEM SERVICE WARNINGS .) Refer to AIR BAG SYSTEM SERVICE CAUTIONS .)
- Disconnect the negative battery cable and wait for 1 min or more. Refer to NEGATIVE BATTERY CABLE DISCONNECTION/CONNECTION .)
- Remove the following parts:
- Driver-side air bag module Refer to DRIVER-SIDE AIR BAG MODULE REMOVAL .) Refer to DRIVER-SIDE AIR BAG MODULE INSTALLATION .)
- Steering wheel Refer to STEERING WHEEL AND COLUMN REMOVAL/INSTALLATION .)
- Column cover Refer to COLUMN COVER REMOVAL/INSTALLATION .)
- Disconnect the clock spring connector.
- Disconnect the steering angle sensor connector. (with steering angle sensor)
- Remove the tab direction of the arrow shown in the figure and remove the clock spring.
- Install in the reverse order of removal. Refer to CLOCK SPRING INSTALLATION NOTE .)
- Switch the ignition ON (engine off or on).
- Verify that the air bag/seat belt pre-tensioner system warning light illuminates for approx. 6 s
and turns off.
- If the air bag/seat belt pre-tensioner system warning light does not operate in the manner described above, there are malfunctions in the system. Inspect the system using the on-board diagnostic. Refer to FLOWCHART [SAS CONTROL MODULE (TWO-STEP DEPLOYMENT CONTROL SYSTEM)] .)
