2019-2021 Mazda3 (Japan built) vehicles with SBS-R with VINs lower than JM1BP******300047 (produced before Jun. 17, 2020)

2019-2021 Mazda3 (Mexico built) vehicles with SBS-R with VINs lower than 3MZBP******208787 (produced before Nov. 14, 2020)

DESCRIPTION

Some customers may notice an unexpected collision warning or automatic braking while reversing. This concern may be due to the parking assist unit software. The Smart Brake Support (SBS-R) system may be detecting an unintended obstruction at the lower rear end of the vehicle. To eliminate this concern, the parking assist unit control software has been modified.

Customers having this concern should have their vehicle repaired using the following repair procedure.

REPAIR PROCEDURE

  1. Verify the customer concern.
  2. Reprogram the PAU  with Mazda Modular Diagnostic System (M-MDS) using Mazda Diagnostic And Repair Software (MDARS) according to MDARS ECU REPROGRAMMING PROCEDURE.
  3. Verify the repair.
