Passenger-Side Air Bag Module Installation [Two-Step Deployment Control System]

WARNING:

Handling the passenger-side air bag module improperly can accidentally operate (deploy) the air bag module, which may seriously injure you. Due to the adoption of 2-step deployment control in the passenger-side air bag module, depending on the impact force, it is possible that inflator No. 2 might not deploy. In such cases, before disposing of the air bag module, make sure to follow the inflator deployment procedures and verify complete deployment of inflators No. 1 and 2.

Install guide A to the dashboard (1).

Press the passenger-side air bag module in the direction of the arrow shown in the figure and attach guides B (2).
Install the screws.

Install the brackets.

Install the nuts.
Install the fastener.

Connect the passenger-side air bag module connector.

Install the cap with the arrow pointing toward the front.

Install the following parts:
1. Lower panel (passenger-side) (See LOWER PANEL REMOVAL/INSTALLATION .)
2. Front side trim (passenger-side) (See FRONT SIDE TRIM REMOVAL/INSTALLATION .)
3. Front scuff plate (passenger-side) (See FRONT SCUFF PLATE REMOVAL/INSTALLATION .)
4. Dashboard under cover (See DASHBOARD UNDER COVER REMOVAL/INSTALLATION .)
5. Decoration panel (See DECORATION PANEL REMOVAL/INSTALLATION .)
6. Glove compartment (See GLOVE COMPARTMENT REMOVAL/INSTALLATION .)
Connect the negative battery cable. (See NEGATIVE BATTERY CABLE DISCONNECTION/CONNECTION [SKYACTIV-G 2.0, SKYACTIV-G 2.5] .)
Switch the ignition ON (engine off or on).
Verify that the air bag/seat belt pre-tensioner system warning light illuminates for approx. 6 s and turns off.
- If the air bag/seat belt pre-tensioner system warning light does not operate normally, refer to the on-board diagnostic system (air bag system) and perform inspection of the system. (See FLOWCHART [SAS CONTROL MODULE (TWO-STEP DEPLOYMENT CONTROL SYSTEM)] .)
