Selector Lever Removal/Installation

  1. Disconnect the negative battery cable. (See NEGATIVE BATTERY CABLE DISCONNECTION/CONNECTION .)
  2. Perform the following procedure to remove the selector lever knob.
    1. Shift the selector lever to the N range.
    2. Insert the tool (width: 2 mm {0.08 in} or less  , thickness: 1 mm {0.04 in} or less)  as shown in the figure.

    3. Lift the tool horizontally in the direction of arrow (1) shown in the figure and detach the tab, and then remove the lock release button cover in the direction of arrow (2).

    4. Remove the spring.

    5. Remove the selector lever knob.

  3. Remove the following parts:
    1. Shift panel component (See SHIFT PANEL REMOVAL/INSTALLATION .)
    2. Upper panel (See UPPER PANEL REMOVAL/INSTALLATION .)
    3. Parking brake lever boot panel (See PARKING BRAKE LEVER BOOT PANEL REMOVAL/INSTALLATION .)
    4. Rear console (See REAR CONSOLE REMOVAL/INSTALLATION .)
    5. Front console panel (See FRONT CONSOLE PANEL REMOVAL/INSTALLATION .)
    6. Front console component (See FRONT CONSOLE REMOVAL/INSTALLATION .)
  4. Disconnect the connector and wiring harness clip.

  5. Disconnect the selector lever component connector.

  6. Place alignment marks on the control rod bracket and nut.

  7. Remove the nut.

  8. Disconnect the control rod from the lever clip of the selector lever component.
  9. Remove the nuts from the selector lever component.

  10. Set the short cord aside and remove the selector lever component.

  11. Pass the short cord through the installation hole and install the selector lever component.
  12. Install the nuts to the selector lever component.

  13. Assemble the control rod to the lever clip of the selector lever component.

  14. Align the alignment marks on the control rod bracket and nut, and install the nut.
  15. Connect the selector lever component connector.

  16. Connect the connector and wiring harness clip.

  17. Install the following parts:
    1. Front console component (See FRONT CONSOLE REMOVAL/INSTALLATION .)
    2. Front console panel (See FRONT CONSOLE PANEL REMOVAL/INSTALLATION .)
    3. Rear console (See REAR CONSOLE REMOVAL/INSTALLATION .)
    4. Parking brake lever boot panel (See PARKING BRAKE LEVER BOOT PANEL REMOVAL/INSTALLATION .)
    5. Upper panel (See UPPER PANEL REMOVAL/INSTALLATION .)
    6. Shift panel component (See SHIFT PANEL REMOVAL/INSTALLATION .)
  18. Perform the following procedure to install the selector lever knob.
    1. Install the spring to the selector lever knob.

      CAUTION:
      • Install the spring so that it is stopped by the stopper.
    2. Install the lock release button cover to the selector lever knob.

      1. Attach the lock release button cover hook to the position on the selector lever knob shown in the figure.
      2. Press the lower end of the lock release button cover in the direction of the arrow and press in the tab.
    3. Install the selector lever knob to the selector lever component.

    4. Pull the select lever knob upward and verify that it is securely installed.
  19. Connect the negative battery cable. (See NEGATIVE BATTERY CABLE DISCONNECTION/CONNECTION .)
