Torque Converter Removal/Installation
- Remove the transmission. (See AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION REMOVAL/INSTALLATION .)
- Remove the torque converter, and immediately turn it so that the hole faces upward. This will help to keep any remaining ATF from spilling.
CAUTION:
- The oil seal can be easily damaged by the sharp edges of the torque converter splines. Do not let the splines contact the oil seal.
- Do not drop the torque converter.
- Be careful not to get your fingers pinched.
- Drain any ATF remaining in the torque converter.
- Using a flathead screwdriver, position the drive gear on the oil pump component to the center.
- Install the torque converter to the transmission.
- To ensure that the torque converter is installed accurately, measure distance A between the end of the torque converter and the end of the converter housing.

- 21.4 mm {0.843 in} or more
- Install the automatic transmission. (See AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION REMOVAL/INSTALLATION .)
- Perform the mechanical system test. (See MECHANICAL SYSTEM TEST .)
