Clock Spring Removal/Installation: Notes

WARNING:

Handling the air bag module improperly can accidentally deploy the air bag module, which may seriously injure you. Read the air bag system service warnings and cautions before handling the air bag module. (See AIR BAG SYSTEM SERVICE WARNINGS [TWO-STEP DEPLOYMENT CONTROL SYSTEM] .) Switch the ignition off.
Disconnect the negative battery cable and wait for 1 min or more. (See NEGATIVE BATTERY CABLE DISCONNECTION/CONNECTION .)
Remove the driver-side air bag module. (See DRIVER-SIDE AIR BAG MODULE REMOVAL/INSTALLATION [TWO-STEP DEPLOYMENT CONTROL SYSTEM] .)
Remove the steering wheel. (See STEERING WHEEL AND COLUMN REMOVAL/INSTALLATION .)
Remove the column cover. (See COLUMN COVER REMOVAL/INSTALLATION .)
Disconnect the clock spring connector.

Disconnect the steering angle sensor connector. (with steering angle sensor)
Remove the tab direction of the arrow shown in the figure and remove the clock spring.

Install in the reverse order of removal. (See CLOCK SPRING INSTALLATION NOTE .)
Verify that the air bag system warning light illuminates for approx. 6 s and turns off.
- If the air bag system warning light does not operate in the manner described above, there are malfunctions in the system. Inspect the system using the on-board diagnostic. (See FLOWCHART [TWO-STEP DEPLOYMENT CONTROL SYSTEM] .)
