Manual Transaxle Shift Mechanism Removal/Installation: Notes

1. Disconnect the negative battery cable. (See BATTERY REMOVAL/INSTALLATION [MZR 1.5] .)
2. Remove the battery and battery cover and battery tray and battery bracket. (See BATTERY REMOVAL/INSTALLATION [MZR 1.5] .)
3. Remove the tunnel member. (See EXHAUST SYSTEM REMOVAL/INSTALLATION .)
4. Remove the TWC. (See EXHAUST SYSTEM REMOVAL/INSTALLATION .)
5. Remove the exhaust system insulator as shown in the figure. (See EXHAUST SYSTEM REMOVAL/INSTALLATION .)
6. Remove the side wall. (See SIDE WALL REMOVAL/INSTALLATION .)

7. Remove the shift lever knob as shown in the figure.
8. Remove the front console component. (See FRONT CONSOLE COMPONENT REMOVAL/INSTALLATION .)
9. Remove in the order indicated in the table.
10. Install in the reverse order of removal.
11. After installation, verify that the shift lever can be shifted smoothly into each position.
